Katerina Jowid

Katerina Jowid is a Digital Content Assistant for the Sustainable LA Grand Challenge. She produces written content for social media and the SLAGC blog which promote sustainability breakthroughs and contributions by UCLA researchers and staff. Katerina was also a scholar in the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program during the 2020-2021 academic year, where she researched ways of incentivizing UCLA licensees to be more sustainable.

Outside of SLAGC, Katerina is a researcher for the UCLA Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, under the supervision of Professors Shaily Mahendra and Eric Hoek, working on efficient water treatment systems. She also previously conducted research on the effect of wildfire ash residue on plants under Professor Sanjay Mohanty from the same department. Beyond academic work, Katerina holds a Press Card from her hometown in Bulgaria, where she has interned as a journalist, and can be spotted at UCLA’s weekly Peaks and Professors hikes. 

Katerina is a forth-year Environmental Science major at UCLA with a minor in Environmental Engineering. She will complete her bachelor of science in spring of 2023.
