Ahalya Sabaratnam

Ahalya Sabaratnam (she/her) is the Data Management Assistant for the Sustainable LA Grand Challenge. She brings a love for problem solving, formidable attention to detail, and perseverance to maintaining and improving SLAGC’s information management infrastructure. Examples of her contributions range from collecting and organizing data for analysis, creating data visualizations to best showcase information according to various needs and implementing processes to supplement the flow of information within SLAGC. 
 
As an undergraduate student, Ahalya’s research interests are focused on the effects of light pollution on human health, and on ecosystems as a whole. Prior to joining the SLAGC team, Ahalya worked for AECOM on various public service consulting projects related to creating climate action plans and greenhouse gas accounting. She was also previously a SLAGC undergraduate research scholar, working with Dr. Travis Longcore to discover how the human impacts of light pollution scales with socioeconomic status. 
 
Ahalya will complete her B.S. in Environmental Science with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society in the Spring of 2024. She also serves as the financial director of the Renewable Energy Association student organization, and continues to work as a research assistant for Dr. Longcore and as a NASA-Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve Ambassador.
