UCLA’s Abel Valenzuela discusses his goals as interim dean of social sciences

Abel Valenzuela

UCLA’s Abel Valenzuela partnered with UCLA Newsroom to discuss his goals and aspirations as interim dean of social sciences. Valenzuela is a member of Sustainable LA Grand Challenge’s Faculty Advisory Cabinet and has frequently collaborated with UCLA faculty on solving critical sustainability issues while fighting for equity in underprivileged communities. During his own leadership of the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment, Valenzuela was able to enhance UCLA’s well-established reputation for engaging Los Angeles through empirical, policy-driven research and by providing his students with research opportunities on topics that were important to them.

Valenzuela said he is “honored, humbled and thankful to the campus’s senior leadership and to Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Hunt for their confidence in me as I undertake this new leadership assignment”.
