UCLA was recently ranked the No. 1 public university in the nation by U.S. News and World Report for the sixth consecutive year. As the nation’s most applied to school for several years running, UCLA has met the demands of thousands of students while providing the necessary support for students coming from challenging socioeconomic backgrounds.

UCLA ranked high in multiple categories to determine this status, and was selected as the top school for veterans, providing students with a Veteran Resource Center that guides them in using their veteran benefits and connects them with financial aid programs.

The U.S. News “Best Colleges” rankings are based on other measures, including graduation and retention rates, class size and the average federal loan debt of graduates, as well as schools’ academic reputation, as determined by a peer assessment survey of presidents, provosts and deans of admissions at U.S. colleges. UCLA was also recognized as the only campus in the University of California system to guarantee housing to all students who seek it for the duration of their undergraduate education, and it regularly wins awards for its food and dining facilities. UCLA has earned a reputation as a place where people from all walks of life can shape their future success.

UCLA Chancellor Gene Block said the ranking “is a recognition of the hard work of the staff and faculty, who believe deeply in our academic mission and drive it forward, even in the most difficult periods. It is a recognition of our students’ brilliance, creativity, ambition and persistence, both in their time on campus and in their lives as alumni.”
