Paul Ong honored for his work in advancing environmental justice

Paul Ong, director of the Center for Neighborhood Knowledge at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs and Sustainable LA Grand Challenge Faculty Advisory Cabinet member, was selected as a recipient of the 2020-2021 Haagen-Smit Clean Air Award for his outstanding work in environmental justice. This honor was bestowed upon six individuals who made valuable contributions toward improving air quality and reducing the effects of climate change. Over the course of his career, Ong has produced more than 100 publications addressing racial inequalities in neighborhoods, and has worked for more than three decades as a scientist and educator on interdisciplinary social science. His fields of interest include environmental teaching, policy-focused research and community engagement.
