Publication: Spectrum 1 News

UCLA Expert: Onja Davidson Raoelison: PhD Candidate, Civil and Environmental Engineering

Synopsis: Raoelison’s research and studies focus on the unprecedented effects wildfires have on water systems, and she is currently developing small-scale biofilters that could have significant impacts for fire prone areas.

UCLA News: Raoelison discussed the importance of utilizing all water sources efficiently. “I’m interested in green infrastructure — a sustainable solution to mitigate the impacts of wildfires on water quality,” she said. “We don’t have enough water. We spend a lot of money to get water from elsewhere, and then we discharge it to the ocean. … We have to use the water we get, and so one of the things is stormwater.”
