Institute of the Environment & Sustainability Director Marilyn Raphael discusses climate change and accessibility

Marilyn Raphael in front of the Weather Field No. 1, a dynamic sculpture that shifts with the air at Tongva Park in Santa Monica. Like Raphael's work, the sculpture reminds us of our connection to both local and global climate conditions.

Director of the UCLA Institute of the Environment & Sustainability, Marilyn Raphael, is now the vice president of the American Association of Geographers. She plans to use her experience in geography, and new position, to explore how this field can help vulnerable people everywhere and increase accessibility.

In an interview with UCLA Newsroom, Raphael discusses her field work in Antarctica and her contribution to the Encyclopedia of Weather and Climate Change. “[The Encyclopedia] was a wonderful way to share science with people who want to learn about the climate and about climate change in accessible format. And it reached a lot of people who are not experts.”
