Dana Hunnes advocates for plant-based protein

Publication: Prevention

UCLA Expert: Dana Ellis Hunnes: Adjunct Assistant Professor, Department of Community Health Sciences; Chair Advisor and Senior Dietitian, UCLA Medical Center Wellness Committee

Synopsis: Hunnes reviewed the health and environmental benefits of plant-based protein. She explained the top 15 foods that are high in fiber and low in carbs. An example was edamame, which is chock-full of protein with eight grams per cup.

UCLA News: According to the authors, people could all use more plant-based protein. “They’re healthy for our body, our gut (fiber!), and for the environment as they produce significantly less greenhouse gases than the equivalent amount of protein in meat,” Hunnes said.
