
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority has proposed a sales tax increase to fund billions in transportation projects. The aim of the measure, called the Los Angeles County Traffic Improvement Plan, is to combat traffic congestion through the construction of new rail lines, rapid bus service, and highway expansions. According to Juan Matute, a professor at the UCLA Lewis Center and the Institute of Transportation Studies, the measure has the potential to produce the desired results, especially by improving commute times for bus riders and cyclists.
