Park Williams co-writes commentary on urban development in high-risk areas

Publication: Conversation US

UCLA Expert: Park Williams: Associate Professor and Ladder Faculty, UCLA Department of Geography

Synopsis: Conversation US published commentary written by Williams and other researchers. They discussed how the fastest population growth in the West's wildland-urban interface is in areas most vulnerable to wildfires.

UCLA News: Williams and co-authors discuss the growing dangers of expansion into high-risk areas. “The disproportionate population growth in high-hazard areas is a warning that the likelihood of humans sparking a fire in an area with high-risk vegetation is rising — and that it may be higher than was previously understood.”
