UCLA professors Ethan Elkind (UCLA School of Law, UC Berkeley School of Law) and William Yu (Anderson School of Management) weigh in on the new Expo Line light rail extension to Santa Monica opening this weekend. Yu, an economics professor, predicts that the train’s proximity to major job hubs will be conducive to high ridership rates. Elkind is less optimistic, suggesting that investments in affordable housing near stations are necessary for increased ridership.
