Julia Stein on funding wildfire suppression and preventative measures

Publication: Los Angeles Times

UCLA Expert: Julia Stein: Project Director, UCLA Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment

Synopsis: The Los Angeles Times reports on new federal funding, intended to reduce California’s wildfire risk, announced by U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris during her visit to the state.

UCLA News: Stein acknowledges the importance of suppression funding while calling for an increase in preventative measures. “What we’re realizing is that the wildfire season continues to grow longer and longer every year — we query whether it can even be called a season anymore. So while the need for suppression funding is still great, it’s important for us to be thinking ahead and taking measures to prevent fires before they start.”
