UCLA Expert: Daniel Swain, UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability
Synopsis: Some water agencies in Southern California are interested in cloud seeding, a technology which could potentially allow humans to increase precipitation during storms. This would theoretically help to combat drought in the region.
UCLA News: Swain raises concerns about the reliability of placing faith, and resources, into this type of technology. “There’s a long history of people making really bold claims about being able to manipulate the weather, and time and time again, science really has failed to demonstrate that these attempts to do that have actually yielded any fruit.”
