Daniel Swain discusses how we can collectively fight climate change

Publication: Arizona Republic

UCLA Expert: Daniel Swain: Assistant Researcher and Climate Specialist, Institute of the Environment and Sustainability

Synopsis: Swain examined how we can collectively fight climate change as part of a panel discussion on climate featured by AZ Central. Swain also notes that climate is just one component of natural disasters in a KCET segment.

UCLA News: “It isn’t realistic, in many cases, to ask people to reduce their individual carbon footprint to the point where, if everybody did it, it would actually solve the problem,” said Swain. “There are two dimensions to a disaster: a physical hazard, like heat, and the societal or environmental vulnerability it encounters,” he added, “For this reason, emergency management professionals have long criticized the use of the phrase ‘natural disasters.”
